About Quzhou University

Quzhou University (QZU) is an application-oriented public university. While comprehensive in scope, QZU maintains a strong emphasis on engineering disciplines. Founded in 1985, QZU was formerly known as the West Branch of the Zhejiang College of Technology. In March of 2010, with the approval of the Ministry of Education, it was renamed Quzhou University. In 2014, QZU was authorized as a bachelor’s degree awarding institute. In 2015, QZU was approved to be a model university for application-oriented universities of Zhejiang Province. In February 2018, QZU passed the undergraduate teaching qualification assessment of the Ministry of Education. QZU has received multiple honors and awards, such as the Provincial Mass Entrepreneurship Innovation Demonstration Base of Zhejiang and Role Model in Ethical and Cultural Progress in Zhejiang Province.

 

QZU is located in the city of Quzhou in Zhejiang Province, a National Historic and Cultural City known as the Home of Southern Confucianism. The campus covers an area of 57.5 hectares with a total floor space of 238,200 square meters. Here students enjoy a picturesque campus with up-to-date facilities and equipment. Based on its foundation and it’s mandate to support the development of the local society and economy, QZU aims to future develop it’s application-oriented strengths as a university and maintain its commitment to engineering studies in order to fulfill its commitment to serve the city of Quzhou and Zhejiang Province.

 

QZU consists of 7 colleges: College of Chemical and Material Engineering, College of Mechanical Engineering, College of Civil Engineering and Architecture, College of Electrical and Information Engineering, College of Business, College of Teacher Education and the College of Foreign Languages and International Education. QZU offers 27 undergraduate programs, covering 7 disciplines including engineering, literature, science, education, art, management and economics. At present, QZU has about 8,000 full-time students on campus. In addition, 4 QZU disciplines have been listed as among the top disciplines in the 13th Five-year Plan of Zhejiang and 7 specialties have been listed among the first-class specialties of Zhejiang Province. The total assets of QZU’s teaching and scientific research instruments and equipment are 156 million yuan, and the university library holds a collection of more than 1 million volumes of paper books. QZU also has a university affiliated education group, which consists of 4 schools (campuses).

 

QZU strongly believes that its strength lies with staff, and has made great progress in developing and acquiring top level teaching and administrative talents. It currently has a faculty and staff of 637 individuals, of which 458 are full-time educators. Among them there are 52 professors, 150 associate professors, 131 teachers holding a Ph.D. degree. QZU has enlisted 1 academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering, has 1 recipient of the National Million Talents Project, 1 recipient of the National Middle-aged and Young Experts having Outstanding Contributions, 2 experts enjoying a special subsidy from the State Council, 19 recipients of the first, second and third tier 151 Talents Project of Zhejiang Province, a total of 190 talents of or above the municipal level, 3 key innovation teams at the municipal level and 258 teachers with multiple professional qualifications.

 

QZU has vigorously promoted the cultivation of talents and is improving the quality of its morality education programs. The number of graduates whose scores are above the cut-off mark for the Postgraduate Entrance Examination amounted to more than 20 per cent of the total number of graduates and the admission rate has reached more than 17% for 2 consecutive years. QZU students have achieved remarkable results in academic competitions. They have won more than 2,300 awards at or above third prize in both national and provincial academic competitions, among which over 280 awards were national third prizes or above. In 2018, QZU ranked 174th among more than 1,000 universities in China. QZU has made steady progress in advocating innovation and entrepreneurship, and has been approved as a University of Students’ Innovation and Entrepreneurship Training Program of National Level. In terms of QZU graduates, they have enjoyed employment rates above 96 per cent, and have been highly prized by their employers for their expertise, pioneering spirit and ability to adapt to new positions. “Southern Confucianism” has been awarded as one of the Iconic Brands of University Culture in Zhejiang Province. In the past 5 years, QZU won a total of 5 second prizes at the annual Zhejiang Provincial Higher Education Teaching Achievements Exhibition and about 80 prizes of Provincial Teaching Reform Projects, Provincial Level Projects of Integration of enterprises with Vocational Schools and Universities, Model Lesson Projects of “Internet + Classroom Instruction” and the MOE’s Education Projects of Industry-University Collaboration.

 

QZU has experienced ever improving quality in the field of scientific research due to its sustained focus in this area. The university has on-site 1 National Innovation Alliance for Forestry and Grassland, 1 Provincial Key Laboratory, 4 Provincial Major Service Platforms of Technological Innovation and 3 Provincial Industrial Innovation Service Complexes. In recent years, QZU has conducted more than 190 scientific research projects at either the provincial or national-level and received more than 110 awards, including the Provincial Award for Outstanding Scientific Research Achievements among Colleges and Universities, the Provincial Association of Social Sciences Award for Outstanding Scientific Research Achievements, and the Municipal Award for Scientific and Technological Progress. Additionally, Quzhou Archives has been awarded the first prize during the 19th Zhejiang Provincial Award Competition for Outstanding Achievements in Philosophy and Social Sciences. QZU is also proud that in 2019 it saw a significant increase in external scientific research funds that reached 70,000 yuan per teacher.

 

QZU vigorously promotes its social services and keeps optimizing its capabilities to serve the needs of the local community. In recent years, 5 research centers have been jointly established with well know prestigious institutes including the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, and 77 doctoral workstations have been jointly established with the Talent Office of the Municipal Committee and other outside enterprises. QZU has also set up College of Ecological Economy and College of Digital Economics to meet the needs of local development. Together with the College of Engineers of Zhejiang University, Quzhou branch, QZU implemented a policy of “shared learning under the same roof, joint efforts for common development.” QZU established the China-Ukraine Joint Research Center for Superhard Materials, Southeast Digital Economic Development Research Institute, Institute of Green Finance, Xianhe Research Institute and Alliance of Fluorine Silicon Materials for the Integration of Industry and Education of Zhejiang Province to accelerate the development of traditional industries and develop new industries of the local community. QZU also established an alliance of application-oriented universities in the heart of the greater region that encompasses four provinces with Wuyi University, Shangrao Normal University and Huangshan University to promote the coordinated development of the universities.

 

QZU actively promotes international education and encourages exchange and cooperation with international and cross-strait partners. At present, the university has established collaborative partnership with colleges and universities throughout the world including the United States, Germany, South Korea and Sweden to name a few. QZU had its first class of international students from South Africa and is now making progress in internationalization of education.

 

In the future, QZU will stick to its motto “Determination and Devotion” and the development strategy of consolidating its core foundation by emphasizing practical application and collaboration with outside enterprises. It will further seek to strengthen its foundation by applying new technologies to better integrate industry and education. It will put together a team of teaching faculty that will focus on serving the needs of Quzhou and the university’s  students’, education and discipline construction. QZU will continue to concentrate on cultivation of talent, research and development services, integration of industry and education, and cultural transmission. QZU will adhere to the system of the  integration in education level, cultivation process, discipline construction, specialty construction, dual-innovation education, resource integration and highlight collaborative innovation of industry and education, emphasize cooperation, and the important role that of industry and education play in strengthening the practical application of new innovation. The university will strive to build itself into a high-level application-oriented university with distinctive features, and to play a leading role in the construction of application-oriented universities in the heart of the greater region that encompasses four provinces to better serve Quzhou and influence the surrounding areas.
